New York City (AP) Nike has announced it will open a new women’s footwear brand, paying tribute to the company’s iconic shoes from the 1950s.
The company says the shoe line will be called “The Women’s Shoes” and will launch at the annual New York fashion week show at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 14.
Nike said it has hired about 30 designers and other partners and will create a new fashion show, as well as a brand new store and a women’s fashion show in New York.
The shoe line, which will include a number of women’s shoes, will launch as Nike’s “Women’s Shoes for Women” initiative, which pays tribute to shoes made by Nike for women.
Nikes shoes were designed in collaboration with the likes of Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, Louis Vuitton and other women’s designers.
The women’s collection will feature Nike’s classic shoes with their signature logo on the heel and toe and the word “Women” stamped on the upper.
Nixons shoes are currently sold in more than 300 countries.
Nike said it will also continue to sell women’s and men’s Nike shoes and accessories.
